Elections: About the current board members.
Fay Mathews:
My name is Fay Mathews and I am running for a four-year term to serve on the Delta County Fire Protection District #1 Board of Directors. I want to continue to serve, support and ensure the volunteers have the proper equipment and fire apparatus to do their job. I served 24 years on the Delta Fire Department, several of those years as Fire Chief. With your support I hope to continue to serve this community and the fire district.
Todd Queen:
I was born and raised in Delta County. I’ve lived here my entire life, and for the last 6 years alongside my wife and our two children—a daughter and son. As co-owner and Vice President of Bolinger & Queen, (a pipe and supply company in Hotchkiss and Olathe) I serve Western Colorado’s farmers, ranchers, and rural residents. For three years, I’ve had the privilege of serving on the fire district board.
I am not a firefighter and my qualifications don't include firefighting experience. Our district has a skilled fire chief, dedicated staff, and proud volunteers to protect your private property and our public lands. The skill, science, and capability to fight fires are fully provided through our great team. The board's role is different; our purpose is to focus on governance and policy, financial oversight, community representation, compliance and planning.
For 17 years, I’ve helped lead Bolinger & Queen, the last 6 as co-owner, gaining deep insight into the needs of our farmers, ranchers, and rural residents. At Bolinger & Queen, financial oversight and fiscal responsibility drive our success - principles I have contributed to this board. During my tenure, I’ve helped achieve key advancements for our district. We completed the Peach Valley substation and secured property for a California Mesa substation. These projects will improve response times and expand our coverage. Working with our Fire Chief, we’ve supported enhanced recruitment strategies to sustain a strong volunteer force, ensuring our district’s readiness.
I look forward to the opportunity to continue to serve the residents of Delta County Fire District 1 and be a part of the team that is relentless in the pursuit to steward your tax dollars well. I’d be honored to continue this work and ask for your vote in the upcoming election. Thank you.
Daniel Cano:
My name is Daniel Cano and I am a retired fire Chief from this very district. I bring over 20 years of fire experience and am the current Captain for the DCSO jail facility here in Delta. I know how the department runs, operates and have learned and operated under the budget constraints the district has. I value the importance of keeping the district local minded and understanding the value of the volunteers that serve this district.
